Having grown from a small agency to a company of over 80 people, Black Sun decided to refresh its values to ensure they were still relevant to a diverse workforce of over 18 nationalities, based in London and Singapore. In order to embed values into behaviours and drive a positive culture, we needed to empower our leaders, managers and employees to drive change in the business and reward and recognise the people in our company who show that they truly live the values in their client work and office behaviour.
Shine has completely changed how employees engage with each other and the business as a whole.

Our Talent Consultant initiated a forum with a working group of stakeholders from around the business to further define our objectives. From the outset, it was clear that the solution had to be made by our people, for our people.
We decided to leverage the skills of our creatives, designers and developers to implement an online platform allowing every Black Sun employee to 'shout out' for a colleague who has done great work. This would lead to a special recognition award given to a handful of employees every month.
Our team of creatives and designers developed a distinctive "Shine" brand identity that was applied to the platform and all the campaign collateral, including pre-launch teasers, emails, posters, branded mouse mats and desktop backgrounds.
The platform works across all devices, and has two key features:
Employees can post ideas on any topic. All ideas get considered and those taken forward earned the creator a reward.
Employees can recognise their colleagues. These 'shout outs' count towards a leaderboard for employee of the year.
One year on, 37 new ideas have been submitted to improve the business, 924 posts have been posted gathering 59,796 views, and 178 recognitions have been posted. Most importantly, the Shine programme has dramatic and sustained impact on the company's culture and impacted many aspects of our work.
